After the untimely death of Toru Rikiishi during their championship bout, Joe wanders aimlessly from town to town as if trying to escape his own past. After a chance encounter with a former rival, Joe has a change of heart and decides to enter the ring once again. After contending against new world ranked fighters, Joe finally reaches the championship match against Jose Mendoza where he rediscovers the spirit he had during his rivalry with Toru.
